Strathmore Square in North Bethesda is officially open and welcoming new residents.
Developed by Fivesquares Development and Aimco, the project will bring a mix of luxury and affordable housing near the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station, creating an arts-centric, community-focused environment.
Phase One includes 220 housing units and a 1.25-acre public park, with future plans for the complex to host up to 2,000 residential units alongside 60,000 square feet of retail spaces and additional outdoor amenities.
This development emphasizes sustainability and wellness, blending natural elements, cultural spaces, and eco-friendly design to support a balanced lifestyle near the Strathmore Music Center, Rock Creek Park, and other cultural sites.
Strathmore Square is designed to connect residents to arts and cultural programming through an exclusive partnership with Strathmore, which will bring residents perks like automatic membership and access to free concerts, performances, and art experiences.
In addition to the membership, residents will receive access to artist interviews and private concerts and can meet with an art curator to create "the ideal concert season" for the community, the release said.
Other perks include reserved seating for Strathmore's summer concert series, "Live from the Lawn," and discounts on Strathmore Presents performances. According to the release, residents can also access free weekly classes at CityDance Studios and conservatory rehearsals. CityDance has three studios within the apartment complex.
The developers envision a community that offers easy access to the metro and enriches residents' lives through arts, green spaces, and transit-oriented living.
Amazon has committed $24 million to support 122 affordable housing units at Strathmore Square. This funding is part of Amazon's broader effort to address affordable housing in high-cost metro areas, aiming to create or preserve 20,000 affordable units across the country.
At Strathmore Square, Amazon's contribution helps ensure a mix of income levels within a transit-friendly community, setting a precedent for similar projects in the D.C. area.
